IPC-A-600 J Printed Board Acceptability

IPC-A-600 Revision J, “Acceptability of Printed Boards,” has just been released.  This new update revises one of our most popular IPC standards, the definitive guide to printed circuit board acceptability.   It’s packed with photographs and illustrations to help your staff observe both acceptable and nonconforming conditions on bare printed boards.  The new Revision J contains many updates from Revision H, which is now obsolete.

IPC-A-600 is the companion standard to IPC-6012, “Qualification and Performance Specification for Rigid Printed Boards,” and IPC-6013, “Qualification and Performance Specification for Flexible Printed Boards.”  The new Revision J has 120 new or revised photographs and illustrations.  There’s also new coverage on topics such as microvia contact dimensions, plating, voiding and fill.  And you’ll find updated and expanded coverage for dielectric removal (etchback, smear and wicking), plating folds, surface plating for edge connectors, SMT and BGA pads, marking, hole registration, delamination, cap plating, via fill and flexible circuits.

Here’s a list of the specific changes that IPC has brought to our attention:

  • New Requirements for Microvia and Target Land Registration
  • New Requirements for Microvia and Target Land Defects and Penetration
  • New Requirements for Copper Filled Microvias
  • Extended Definition for Process Indicators Condition
  • Haloing Penetration Distance Updated
  • Nicks and Penetration Further Defined
  • Crazing Penetration Criteria Updated
  • Voids – Copper Plating, Finished Coating Photos Updated
  • Surface Plating – Edge Connector Lands, Further Defined and new photos
  • Surface Plating – Rectangular Surface Mount Lands, Defined and new
