ASME B31.1 2016 Power Piping News

ASME B31.1 2016 Edition, “Code on Power Piping,” is scheduled for release in August.  The new edition will replace the current 2014 Edition, which will then be obsolete.  You may place your pre-order for this new update with Document Center Inc. now.  Since this is a widely used Code, we expect many of you will need the new edition which represents industry best practices.  However, as is usual with these B31 series codes, many previous editions are still referenced in regulations around the country and the new update will not impact these references.

What is power piping?  It’s piping used in electric power generating stations, industrial and institutional plants, geothermal heating systems, and central and district heating and cooling systems.  In particular, the B31.1 Code covers boiler external piping for power boilers and high temperature, high pressure water boilers.  It provides information on the design, materials, fabrication, erection, test, inspection, operation, and maintenance of these types of piping installations.  It has been adopted as part of building code requirements in many U.S. States.

What are the changes in the new 2016 Edition of the ASME B31.1?  ASME has provided the following guidance to Document Center Inc. as an authorized reseller of the ASME codes and standards:
