IPC 2223 D is here!

IPC 2223, “Sectional Design Standard for Flexible/Rigid-Flexible Printed Boards,” has been updated.  The new Revision D is available from Document Center Inc.  It can be purchased in either paper format or for pdf download (non-printing single user license).  It is also available for site licensing.  This standard is intended to be used in conjunction with IPC 2221 (“Generic Standard on Printed Board Design”).  You may also find it helpful if you’re using the IPC 2222 (“Sectional Design Standard for Rigid Organic Printed Boards”).

IPC 2223 D covers the requirements for the design of flexible and rigid-flexible printed boards.  It includes requirements for the forms of component mounting and interconnecting structures as well.  A number of flexible materials are included.  These are  insulating films, reinforced and/or non-reinforced dielectric in combination with metallic materials.  The boards can range from single layer to multilayer and multiple conductive layers.  They can be entirely made from flex material or can be a combination of flex and rigid.

What’s new in IPC 2223 D?  There’s new guidance and requirements for material selection and construction.  Selective (button) plating has been updated.  Minimum bending requirements for flexible circuits with coverlay has been revised.  Changes are also in the sections on impendance and capacitance control, unsupported edge conductors/fingers and copper filled vias/microvias.

All IPC standards are available from Document Center Inc. since we are an authorized distributor of these publications.  Search for and order the standards you need at our webstore, www.document-center.com.  Here is a link to the order page for the IPC 2223 D paper copy and to the order page for the IPC 2223 D pdf copy.  Remember, all electronic IPC standards are non-printing.
