EN 207 2017 Released for Laser Eye-Protection

EN 207, Personal eye-protection equipment – Filters and eye-protectors against laser radiation (laser eye-protectors), has just been revised.  The new 2017 Edition is available from Document Center Inc. now.  You will have a number of national editions to choose from, so you may want to get in touch with us prior to making your purchasing decision.

EN 207 is part of the harmonized list of standards for the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Directive 89/686/EEC.  Acceptance of the new edition is expected and will be noted when the document is included in the Official Journal.  At that time, it will appear on the list.

Because the EN 207 supports the PPE Directive, compliance with this standard is required.  It specifically refers to eye-protectors used for protection against accidental exposure to laser radiation as defined in EN 60825-1:2007 in the spectral range 180 nm (0,18 µm) to 1 000 µm. You’ll find the requirements, test methods and marking information included in the document.  A guide for the selection and use of these eye-protectors is included in Annex B.

This new 2017 Edition is the latest revision of the document which was originally released in 1993.  The previous edition is from 2009 (and corrected in 2011).  As soon as the document is officially adopted, a transition period should go into effect.  It’s likely that within 3 years, you’ll need to meet the updated requirements of the new 2017 Edition.

To get a copy, you’ll have to choose a national edition of the publication.  All countries in the European economic union will be adopting the standard, so there are a lot of options for you.  Price, available formats, and language will factor into your decision.  You may also choose a specific national edition based on the location of your testing laboratory.

Search for and order at the Document Center Inc. webstore, www.document-center.com.  Here is a list of the editions of EN 207 available from Document Center.  You’ll notice that not all of them are the new edition yet.  We’re sure they will be soon! And FYI: all are (or will be) available in English.  The text of the standard is identical in all cases.  Only the cover sheet material varies.
