New ISO 3601-1 2012 Edition on Fluid power systems — O-rings — Part 1: Inside diameters, cross-sections, tolerances and designation codes

The new ISO 3601-1 5th Edition, “Fluid power systems — O-rings — Part 1: Inside diameters, cross-sections, tolerances and designation codes,” has just been released and is now available from Document Center Inc.  The 42-page standard specifies the inside diameters, cross-sections, tolerances and designation codes for O-rings used in fluid power systems for general industrial and aerospace applications.

In fluid power systems, power is transmitted and controlled through a fluid (liquid or gas) under pressure within an enclosed circuit. To avoid leakage or to seal different chambers of a component from each other, sealing devices are used. O-rings are one type of sealing device.

The dimensions and tolerances specified in ISO 3601-1:2012 are suitable for any elastomeric material, provided that suitable tooling is available.

This fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition (ISO 3601-1:2008), which has been technically revised. It also incorporates the Technical Corrigenda ISO 3601-1:2008/Cor 1:2009 and ISO 3601-1:2008/Cor 2:2009.

It is one of 5 parts in the ISO 3601 series.  Here are the other 4 parts:

ISO 3601-2:2008, Fluid power systems — O-rings — Part 2: Housing dimensions for general applications

ISO 3601-3:2005, Fluid power systems — O-rings — Part 3: Quality acceptance criteria

ISO 3601-4:2008, Fluid power systems — O-rings — Part 4: Anti-extrusion rings (back-up rings)

ISO 3601-5:2002, Fluid power systems — O-rings — Part 5: Suitability of elastomeric materials for industrial applications
