New Interpretation Sheet released for IEC 61010-1

IEC 61010-1, “Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use – Part 1: General requirements,” Edition 3.0 has just had an Interpretation Sheet released and it’s available now from Document Center Inc.  The new 2-page addition sheds light on a question that has been raised by users of the standard.

In this case, IEC 61010-1:2010 contains a requirement in Section 6.8.3.1 pertaining to voltage testers for type tests.  The specification for the generator to supply a power of at least 500 VA is at question.

The interpretation details the various issues that this requirement has raised.  Then, it provides guidance from the committee to help the user best understand how to interpret the standard.

Interpretation notices don’t appear very often for IEC standards, but it is one successful way that users of an IEC standard can get questions answered in a definitive manner.

FYI:  This particular interpretation sheet is two pages long — One page for the English language Edition and one for the French!
