New AAMI ST77 2nd Edition for Containment devices for reusable medical device sterilization

Medical Device Manufacturers and Health Care Facilities are always concerned about the sterility of tools and devices.  So if you’re in either field, you’ll want to know that AAMI ST77, “Containment devices for reusable medical device sterilization,” has just been updated.  This design and performance standard covers minimum labeling and performance requirements for rigid sterilization container systems and for instrument cases, cassettes, and organizing trays.

There are a number of different types of systems for containment devices for reusable medical device sterilization.  They include reusable rigid sterilization containers and instrument organizers.  These containment systems serve as packaging for instruments and other medical devices before, during, and after sterilization of the instruments and devices.

AAMI ST77 addresses two primary categories of devices:

  • self-contained reusable rigid sterilization containers that require a barrier system (like filters or valves), and
  • containment devices that require a sterilization wrap or pouch to maintain sterile integrity once the device and its contents are sterilized.

This revised AAMI ST77 2nd Edition replaces the 1st Edition from 2006, which is now obsolete.  New information in this update includes an annex on integrating medical devices with rigid sterilization container systems.

If you use the AAMI ST77, you’ll want to get your updated 2nd Edition now.  You can order online at the Document Center webstore, www.document-center.com.  Or you can contact us by phone (650-591-7600), fax (650-591-7617) or email (info@document-center.com).
