New NAS 523 Revision 30 released – Fastener Code

There’s a new Standard Practice NAS 523, “Fastener Code,” 30th Revision dated 1/31/2013 and you can buy it now from Document Center Inc.  The 48-page National Aerospace Standard includes all types of fasteners where installation creates a permanent deformation that requires the destruction of the fastener to remove it.

These fasteners are commonly called rivets.  Staples or wire stitching are not included in the code.   The symbol for these fasteners include a single cross whose intersection is at the location of the fastener.  If there’s not enough space, the symbol can be located off to the side with the location of the fastener indicated by an arrow.

The bulk of the standard is an Alphabetical part number listing and an Alphabetical code listing.

In order to determine the changes of the new Revision 30 from the previous NAS 523 Revision 29, just take a look at the table at the bottom of page 1.  It contains a listing of revised and deleted sheets.
