New MIL-PRF-38535 K released for Integrated Circuit Manufacturing

For all you microelectronics manufacturers, one of your primary military specifications has just been updated.  MIL-PRF-38535, “Integrated Circuits (Microcircuits) Manufacturing, General Specification for,” is now Revision K.  Released this month, you’ll need to comply with the changes by June 30, 2014.

MIL-PRF-38535 was formerly known as MIL-I-38535.   The updated 217-page performance specification covers the basics of integrated circuit manufacturing for government contract work.   Along with this “baseline” information,  Appendices A to J provide supplemental information on various requirements.  For example, Appendix A is mandatory for MIL-STD-883 type devices.  Appendix C is required for devices requiring RHA (radiation hardness assurance).

The 8 Appendices are:

  • Appendix A, Microcircuit Specification Requirements
  • Appendix B, Space Application
  • Appendix C, Radiation Hardness Assurance
  • Appendix D, Statistical Sampling, Test and Inspection Procedures
  • (FYI: Appendix E, Provisions governing the Certification and Qualification of Offshore Processes, has been deleted from the document)
  • Appendix F, General Provisions for Tape Automated Bonded Microcircuits
  • Appendix G, The Qualified Manufacturers Listing Program
  • Appendix H, Certification, Validation and Qualification
  • Appendix J, Technology Conformance Inspection and Screening Information

Also included in the document are an extensive list of acronyms, information on the QML manufacturing line, and detailed information on the various classes of military microcircuits.  This new Revision K is such an extensive update that no notations are made in the margins.  You’ll need to review it carefully.
