New MIL-PRF-27 G updates Military Transformer Spec

There are some basic military specifications, master specs if you will.  The MIL-PRF-19500 (Semiconductor devices) is an example and so is the MIL-M-38510 (Microcircuits).  The MIL-PRF-27 is the “master spec” for transformers and inductors for U.S. military purchasing, and it’s just been revised for the first time since 1999.  Titled “Transformers and Inductors (Audio, Power, and High-Power Pulse), General Specification For,” it’s used for high-reliability aerospace and military applications.

This new Revision G does not contain the usual marginal notations (those black lines in the margins of the document) since the changes are extensive.  But I will note that there is new information on the use of environmentally preferable materials.  And there’s also the use of color in Appendix B (radiographic inspection)!

The basic format of the document remains the same.  The first 32 pages contain the specification itself, then 6 pages of figures, with the remainder of the 52 pages devoted to the two Appendices, A for qualification inspection and B for radiographic inspection as noted above.  And like the previous MIL-PRF-27F, even though there are 9 standards in the referenced documents section, many more documents are recommended throughout the text.

The MIL-PRF-27G has many additional “slash sheets,” which provide more detailed requirements for subsets derived from the basic outline provided by this general document on transformers and inductors.  Should you find yourself needing to meet the requirements of one of these slash sheets (like the MIL-PRF-27/18, “Transformer, Power 5.76 VA, 60 HZ”), you’ll also need the primary MIL-PRF-27 as well.

When it comes to procuring and maintaining the specifications like the MIL-PRF-27G, you’ll want to use a service that not only delivers the document but also monitors it for you.  Using an outdated specification in your business can lead to undesirable outcomes!  So you’ll be pleased to know that Document Center has not only been selling mil specs and standards to customers worldwide since 1982, it also has one of the best notification services out there.

No only that, but when you use Document Center you have a second way to confirm that you’re using the latest editions — the Standards List that you’ll see each time you log into our website at www.document-center.com.  Here you’ll find a list of the standards you’ve purchased from us, along with the dates of the current components.  You can verify your collection at any time!
