New BS EN 61326-2-6 on EMC Requirements for In vitro diagnostic (IVD) medical equipment

The IEC 61326 Series on EMC Requirements for Electrical Equipment has been updating over the last year based on the new requirements of IEC 61326-1. This means that those changes are being adopted in the European Union as well.

So it’s no surprise that the BS EN 61326-2-6, “Electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use. EMC requirements. Particular requirements. In vitro diagnostic (IVD) medical equipment,” has been revised. You can purchase the new 2013 Edition from Document Center Inc.  It’s the European adoption of the IEC 61326-2-6.

When the general requirements document, IEC 61326-1, updated a year ago, the changes were focused on:

  • the immunity test levels and performance criteria,
  • the requirements for portable test and measurement equipment, and
  • the description of the electromagnetic environments.

These changes have slowly been integrated into the sub-part standards.

The IEC 61326-2-6 and the corresponding BS EN 61326-2-6 have now joined the ranks of the updated documents.  This is the part of the standard that specifies minimum requirements for immunity and emissions regarding electromagnetic compatibility for in vitro diagnostic medical equipment, taking into account the particularities and specific aspects of this electrical equipment and their electromagnetic environment.  The 2013 Edition for the BS EN 61326-2-6 is simply an update of the document taking into account the changes in the BS EN 61326-1 (European adoption of the IEC 61326-1).

The new BS EN 61326-2-6 2013 Edition cancels and replaces the previous 2006 Edition.  If you use this document, please mark your copy of the 2006 Edition as obsolete and get the new 2013 Edition for use going forward.
