ASTM A480/A480M Updated – New 2016a Edition available

ASTM A480/A480M, “Standard Specification for General Requirements for Flat-Rolled Stainless and Heat-Resisting Steel Plate, Sheet, and Strip,” has been updated again!  This new 2016a Edition is the second revision so far this year.  It cancels and replaces the previous 2016 Edition released last February.  You’ll need a copy of the new edition if you use this standard.

Of course, since the ASTM A480/A480M is one of our top-selling material standards from ASTM, I’ve got a number of previous posts about the specification and what it covers.  So I’ll just focus in on the areas that have been updated in both this 2016a Edition and the previous 2016 Edition.  Here are the areas you’ll need to pay attention to when you get your new copy:

  • Grade UNS S30616 has been added to table A1.2
  • Words relating to trace elements have been removed from clause 6.2.2
  • Heat treatment requirements for austenitic types have been clarified in clause 15.2.1, and the word “solution” has been removed from that clause as well.
  • ASTM A167 and ASTM A176 are no longer referenced in this standard
  • Table A3.13 has been modified by adding thickness greater than 8.0 mm

I’d like to mention again that even though you can purchase this ASTM standard in both paper format and for pdf download (and a redline edition is available for your convenience), it is a great candidate for subscription access.  Our Standards Online enterprise solution allows you to get company-wide cloud access to ASTM standards on an annual subscription basis.  And when a document changes during your subscription service year, that update is added to your service at no additional charge.  This means that for the ASTM A480/A480M, these frequent changes would be part of your service without you constantly needing to buy the new document.

Of course, if you just want to get a copy now, head to our web store at www.document-center.com.  And here is a direct link to the order page for ASTM A480/A480M.  But for more information on subscriptions and redlines, please contact our staff by phone (650-591-7600) or by email (info@document-center.com).  We’ve been working with standards since 1982.  Make us your Standards Experts!
