New ISTA 1A 2014 contains technical updates

ISTA 1A, “Non-Simulation Integrity Performance Tests, Packaged-Products weighing 150 lb (68 kg) or Less,” has just been updated.  The new 2014 Edition contains technical updates, so it replaces all previous issues. This document is used to judge the ability of a package weighing less than 150 pounds to withstand the rigors of transportation.  So many of our medical device customers use this particular standard.

The ISTA 1A is republished each year, but does not necessarily contain changes.  For example, the 2013 Edition actually was the 2001 Edition with editorial corrections from 2012.  So this new update is an important revision.

Changes will be found in the test sequence section, with a new test category for atmospheric preconditioning now being included.  This new category affects additional sections of the standard as well.  You’ll find the changes highlighted through-out the text.

Other recently updated ISTA documents include the 3A, 3E, 3F, and all of the series 1 test procedures (1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 1G, and 1H).  Changes to the series 1 center on the addition of this new preconditioning requirement.

If you’re using these ISTA publications, you may not be aware that the new changes have taken place.  In the area on the ISTA website where the issue dates are publicized, the old 2001 Edition of the 1A is still listed as current, for example.  Only by persistent contact with ISTA were we able to confirm that new editions have been released for these issues.
