ASTM A240/A240M updated – Chromium and Chromium-Nickel Stainless Steel

ASTM A240/A240M is a good example of a top-selling standard that has been frequently changed during the past couple of years.  Titled “Standard Specification for Chromium and Chromium-Nickel Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet, and Strip for Pressure Vessels and for General Applications,” the document was just issued as the 2014 Edition.  Take a look at our page with the history of the ASTM A240/A240m revisions and prepare to be amazed!

Let’s take a look at some of the changes over the last year or so:

ASTM A240/A240M 2014 Edition:

  • Rockwell C maximums (equivalent to Brinell maximum) list for UNS numbers S31260, S32101, S32202, S32520, S32760 and S82441 (Table 2).

ASTM A240/A240M 2013c Edition:

  • UNS 82012 and UNS S82031 were added to Tables 1 and 2.

ASTM A240/A240M 2013b Edition:

  • UNS S44537 and S44100 were added to Tables 1 and 2.

ASTM A240/A240M 2013a Edition:

  • UNS S33550 was added to Tables 1 and 2.
  • Ti and Al Requirements for UNS N08811 were clarified (Table 1)
  • UNS N08925 to Tables 1 and 2.

ASTM A240/A240M, 2013 Edition:

  • In Table 2, the thickness range that applies to the lower minimum yield and tensile strength was changed for UNS S32003.

  1. By the way, the ASTM A240/A240M has been revised again. The new 2015 Edition has just been released this month, January 2015. Remember, if you have it using Standards Online, the new edition is automatically posted to your subscription standards service.
